Step Resolution

edited February 2011 in Support
Can someone help me with the Step resolution in BM2. Its a lot different then BM1. Basically i'm trying to create that speeded up hit hat fill effect or pitched snare roll. I was able to do it in the Step resolution setting in BM1.

Do you mean how to change the resolution or what to do in within it to make a snare roll?

    Hey xSCYTHEx.

i guess both question would help a lot. if you got the time i really would appreciate it.

    No problem man. Check it.
Here's how you change the step resolution
    1. Go to the sequencer page
2.select the sequence you'd like to alter.
    3. Up above you will see 1/16 and a small arrow on each side pointing away from it. If you tap those little arrows you will change between different resolutions in 8 beat divisons.
****keep in mind! When you record be sure to change the quantize divisions as well! If you plan on recording something very talk its a good idea to go 1/24 or possibly 1/32. Otherwise you'll be painstakingly move and dividing your melodies.

Ok now for a snare roll.
this is my personal approach to a "trap" beat snare roll.
    1. Open up your sampler instrument and load a snare that has a pop to it. For this set of directions ill use "HH2_SD2", a preset snare that comes with BM2.
2.now open up the sequencer and draw a one bar pattern. Open up its editor.
    3. First things first here, set you quantization to 1/36.
    TIME OUT
Right now I want you to go to the sampler. Now tap that SD pad and open up "tune" mode. I want you to play around with semitones 3-7
what you will do is learn that snare rolls (even actual band snare rolls) are all about accents. The speed is kool sure, but making th snare bounce between an accented hit and and normal one is what gives it such...ferocity. so, the key here is to alternate between the accent and what we'll call the "tap" in a sick way. Example.
This is the grid ill use. Its 1 full bar broken into 1/32s. Each "N" represents an "and" or 8th. Each * represents a 32. Each A is an accent and each T is a tap. Every "o" is a silence. LT is semitone 3
    1 * * * N * * * 2 * * * N * * * 3 * * * N * * * 4 * * * N * * *
    A T A o T o o o.A T A o T o o o. A T A o T o LT oo o o LTo o o o

Attempting something that bounces like this is how you will achieve a snare roll that has some dynamics to it. It has that switch. You can also simply desced semitones..but personally I think that lacks flavor. Sorry about the bad chart im on my phone. Im hoping you get the idea.
    4. Apply it! Remember that trap beat snare rolls are all about those rattles! Quick sucvesive 32 hits in clusters!

By the way, I have yet to implement this lol. I was experimenting and used what I know about production and snares to come up with this twist.
Im not a big trap beat fan I guess lol.

Well there you go. Hope I helped. Let me here what you cook up when you do L:

Alright buddy, I just went ahead and made a video for ya. Its really bad resolution. The sound is horrible, but you should get a general idea. I used a sample that comes with BM2. Hopefully youll get the idea.
Ill post here when i upload it. Probably take about 30 mins.

There it is, literally just finished processing.
Hope it helps you out, do me a favor and tell me if you think I should just stick to using my droid for my vids(is it bearable?)
Or should I just wait for a better cam.
